Wordless Wednesday: five minute photo shoot

birthday happenings part 2

sorry for the poor pic quality on most of these, I forgot to change the settings on my camera!

Did I mention we were having a pizza party? Anyone that knows me knows this was a stretch for me, but it was quite enjoyable in the end :) I ran out of pizza and was commissioned (except no money, so I suppose "voluntold" would be a better word) to host a Mom's club event on bread/pizza making next month, so it must not have been too terrible.

There were tons of people there, even though we didn't send out invitations (bad us), and Tonka made out, even though I said "no presents necessary, bring food instead" ad nauseum. A few questions answered:
*the smudge on the monkey's face? definitely frosting.
*the other baby: 2 days younger than mine and super cute. the newest addition to this family, nicknamed "m&m" by the hospital staff.
*mohawk kid and naked girl and sword fighters: various friends' kids. Fun was had, let me tell you.

Mrs. G and Granny Boo: remember the day I called both of you and said "you can have him"? This was during one of only a few happy minutes of the day. Ten seconds after the last pic? screeching and squealing and flailing. gah! It's a good thing he's cute and a bit past his expiration date, lol.

Wordless Wednesday: Upside-Down

ok, not precisely wordless (you knew I couldn't do it). I have to add: those shorties? made from a thrifted sweater. don't they just beg for a matching sock monkey hat and/or applique'd t-shirt? Love them, mom.

a few birthday highlights

From a spectacular neighbor down the street (her kids had outgrown these): Fisher Price semi with two bikes, tractor with trailer, and fire truck. Little People airport, fire hall, and race track.
From daddy: several matchbox cars and a motorcycle police book.
From thrift store (via momma): construction vehicles wooden puzzle, punching bag, play kitchen (from another great neighbor actually!), several books, and a cassette player with mic. From the grandparents: "2" t-shirt (forgot to wear it! he will soon, promise), more matchbox cars, sidewalk chalk, more books, and some food for the kitchen. oh , and the quilt. it's not done, but I'm still calling it a birthday present to motivate me to finish it before Christmas.
From the aunt: lincoln logs. yay!

Let's see, did I forget anything? probably.

You should have seen the squeals, folks. This was one EXCITED kid. I'm amazed we got any clear and focused shots at all, because as soon as he saw each present (wrapped in the traditional plastic bags and blankets, lol), he went from one parent to the next, explaining in often illegible but always copious detail what each item was, the sounds it made, the way it was to be used, and how thrilled he was to be receiving it. Then he got down on the floor and played until we called him back to open another bag. After everything was opened, he ate three bites of cupcake and read one book before crashing for the night. phew!

oh, you were interested in my birthday highlights as well? I was spoiled, I'll say that much. will take pics of the loot at some point for your viewing pleasure. For now, I'm tired of typing with one hand and am therefore getting off the computer to make googly eyes at my hiccup-y baby.

Barefoot in the kitchen (but not pregnant!)

and glad to be each of those things, I might add.

part of my cleaning arsenal:
1) a pretty apron. Have to look the part, right?

2) the all-purpose cleaner and disinfectant I mentioned before. Good for cleaning just about anything.
3) me-sized and Tonka-sized swiffers for light cleaning days. I do floors with vinegar and water or ammonia and water (by the time the floors are dry so is the smell). If Tonka is interested in helping (always is...for about 5 minutes per "job"), I have a spray bottle of vinegar/water that I spray on the tile for him to "mop" up. Great fun.


4) kiddiesgames.com for when the attention span runs out.


5) the newest weapon in the arsenal: Homemade dishwashing detergent for machines or sinks. It works at least as well as anything I've used previously, and is WAY cheaper. The only weird thing is that there are no bubbles, but that just means less pollutants going into the water system, so I can't complain. The only container I had when I mixed this the first time was a candle jar which, as it turns out, is perfect.
