Patrick "Roy"-sdorp*

I just realized that I named my child after a professional athlete and got away with it.

I don't think the missus will go for naming the next boy Michael Richter W.

* Patrick Roy is french and therefore his last name is pronounced Wa

Just had to comment on Patrick Roy. I used to live in Denver, when he did, and at games they'd play the theme song from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. You know, whistle-whistle-whistle ... and the whole crowd would chime in ... Wah-Wah-Wah.
Then I moved to Canada. And I live with a fella who speaks French. I told him the above, and he about vomited. Apparently "Wah" is not at all how Patrick, or any other Frenchie, pronounces his last name. It's more like, "rrrrrrrrrrrroooooah." I have tried, unsuccessfully, to repeat this back to my husband on numerous occasions. It simply doesn't work. He ends up rolling his eyes at me.
It's the truth, though. 'Mericans can't roll their r's. So the poor fella is "Patrick Wah" to every sportscaster and fan in the states. Oh well. I'd take the world mis-pronouncing my last name for 10s of millions of bucks.
Wait, everyone already does mispronounce my last name, and I don't get a dime! Oh well. Rock on, Patrick rrrrrrrrrrrroooooah.
