cool. funny that I've been eyeing the extra prefolds with similar "stuffing" thoughts. How much do you have to fold down the prefold now in front? I'm thinking of using the prefold as a middle for a contour, that pattern I sent you this am. Probably suedecloth on the front and something nice on the back. Maybe microfiber inside also. We'll see.
Jami-it's doing that to everyone, no clue how to fix it as of yet.
mom-talk about on the same page...
for the one he's got on I did a newborn sized prefold that's pretty thin in thirds in the middle, and I don't fold it over once it's on him(!). The other one I did has another tiny baby prefold, with the addition of one strip of microfiber. Very trim. If I do more (ha, if), I'll experiment with more microfiber in the middle.
found a new fold for regular prefolds though, I'll send you a link, it's one of my new favorites.
I think the first diapers were called flats. The were like a yard square, or others were like 18x40". You folded them to fit. Then some genius with a sewing machine folded and sewed down the folds, so the resulting size was about 14X18, with more layers in the middle. For a long long time these prefolds were the top technology (with rubber pants) - it's what I used on my kids. Now, though, well there really isn't any most common. People are being really creative with the fabrics and the formations.
it's called a snappi, and it's stretchy and has pointy plastic teeth that grab the diaper and hold it together. very convenient and easier to adjust than pins (although I bet an older baby would find it easier to remove for faster streaking potential? we'll see, i guess)
I think I paiid about $2.50 each including shipping for mine.
