A free* morning

I went over to the garden this morning. I knew that based on the calendar I should have SOMETHING ready to harvest. Hmmm, no corn or tomatoes. Bummer.
I picked a ton of basil, lots of parsley, some dill, catnip, peppermint, marjoram, sage, and oregano. Cilantro didn't look so great so I trimmed it a bit and we'll see if it recovers. A week ago I moved the surviving stevia home so that I could watch it better. I wasn't entirely sure that the one thing was catnip but seeing Nickel licking the bag convinced me. I dried the dill, catnip, mint, and sage.
I ground up the marjoram, oregano, parsley, and basil as a pre-pesto mix. I have some more of this pre-pesto type mixture with just basil and cilantro. At some point I will add parmesean cheese, olive oil, maybe butter, nuts (usually walnuts as pinenuts are costly), and garlic to the base. Yum.
Tonight we'll probably have broccoli soup. I froze 2 large bowls of broc (post cleaning and cutting and blanching) and saved one for soup. I'll probably make a cream soup with onions and cheese and some dried potato stuff (one of the only legitimate things you can do with that stuff, if you have it on hand, besides putting it in "potato" bread).
Tomorrow I'll cube the summer squash/zukes, top with spaghetti sauce, top with mozz cheese, top with pizza toppings and bake. This always is eaten with favorable comment.
And that is the end of a psuedo domestic post.

*free? I tend to pay for free time - start a bunch of projects that I have to finish when I'm not so free. Got to love the cake of good intentions, where I regularly bite off more than I can chew.

Catnip? Does that have a use besides as a feline narcotic? (Sam says, send him a nickel bag, and put it on his tab.)

A Jim and a Sam. Too funny.

actually the bag on the zukes is dried catnip. which Nickel the cat found pretty much immediately, so it is hidden. Did I ever send a catnip mouse to you, Jim? Mom says her dud cat isn't attracted to it so you could get hers.
and, people can drink catnip tea as a bedtime slow down type tea. but mine is for the felines.

No, Sam has never used mood-altering substances. And I like Mom's cat, it just needs a dog-free environment.

my cat (whose name is neither jim nor sam, and not even "lil") can whip y'all's butts, with or without the use of a perfectly legal reaction enhancer. so there.
